Perspective and vanishing point

With perspective and vanishing point, a picture looks like having more room and dimension. Read: http://belajarfotografi.com/komposisi-foto-perspektif-titk-lenyap-vanishiing-point/
My experience, to capture a good perspective and vanishing point I mostly used low angle.

Here are some of my shots.

Levitation

People say, Levitation is Floating in the air.
There are so many techniques in photography to create Levitation effect. For example; combining several photos and then edit them by removing unwanted area.
Let say, take a picture in a certain place with no model, take another picture from exactly the same angle, but now with a model who is standing on a supporting stuff (chair, wooden box, etc). Then do editing on the second photo by removing supporting stuff area. Later combine the first picture with the second one. And you will get a levitation picture.

Me myself prefer to follow the technique used by a Japanese woman named Natshumi Hayashi who specialized herself in Levitation Photography (I put her blog: yowayowacamera.com on my bloglist). For me, she is my role model in Levitation Photography.
She captured the moments when a model jumps up. In this case, a model plays a very important role. She or he needs to set his/her expression as cool and flat as possible. It will give a real floating effect.

These are some of my experiments.

Trees

This post is about the trees I captured with my camera in some different places. Actually there is nothing special about the shots, I just like to play with color in "post processing" stage.

My photography teacher told me that if you want to present your shot, do not show the raw one. Do little bit editing on it. I use several kind of photo editors, for instance iPhoto and Snapseed on my iPhone and iPad, Camera+ on iPhone (it gives you some amazing color effects) and of course I also use Photoshop on my Computer. I can not say that one editor is better than the other one. I use them all regularly. It depends on what kind of color effect I want to present in a photo. The most important thing is, photo editor is not to correct your photo, it is just only to give color effect in order to make the photo shows the stronger message.

Tegenungan Waterfall

Early this month on April 7th, 2013, along with 3 friends I visited Tegenungan Waterfall which located in Gianyar, Bali. It took only about 15 minutes driving from Ubud to reach the location. Actually this visit was the second one as I did also in February 2013 with other friends. Unfortunately at that time my equipment did not support me to get the good shots.

This time I tried to do better.
We arrived at the location around 8 am, and we then realized that it was quite late doing photo shots at that hours. What we found there, it was little bit hazy around the waterfall, so the target was not clear enough in view, beside that, the water itself was so turbid. However, on top of all those unsupported conditions, we still tried to take some pictures from various angles and techniques.

In photography, capturing the smooth efect of waterfall, needs long exposure in camera setting with low ISO and deep DOF (aperture setting of f8 or f9). We must use a tripod to hold the camera and if possible, it is recommended to use remote shutter to reduce hand shake effect. And last thing to support max shots is ND Filter. If you dont have this yet, so you need to capture the waterfall in early morning. From my experience taking the waterfall shots without using this kind of filter, I did not get pictures as good as I expected.

After all of the preparations above, here are the results.

Playing with the light

Photography comes from photo which means "light". In photography's techniques we can play with the light where professional photographers call it "light painting". See: http://belajarfotografi.com/tips-foto-light-painting-graffiti-melukis-cahaya/ .
Light painting means taking pictures in the dark, while at the same time use moving light along to the object. Light painting needs long exposure to capture the light. The tools that you need are; an interesting object as your pattern, a small light source such as tiny torch, flash light, candle or anything that can bring out the light. You can also use colorful plastic to enwrap your light source and it will then produce colorful light. The most important thing is a tripod. You may need someone's help to press and hold on the shutter. Ok then, here we go.... Firstly, aim your object, set your focal length. change your lens setting from AF to MF. Set your camera into "Bulb" mode then turn off the lamp. Now you need your friend to press the shutter button and hold it on.... Your part... While your friend is holding on the shutter, play with your light... Create something interesting, words, graffiti, or move your light around the object... Once you've done then ask your friend to release the shutter button....and..... See your result.

Here are some of my light paintings..... Well, not exactly light paintings... But I played with the light.... Enjoy the pictures :).

Framing the models

As a newbie I haven't decided yet what kind of photographer I wanna be. I don't really care about my genre. The most important thing for me is, I like to frame everything; landscapes, people, models, products or whatever. Having my camera in my hands, and take the picture make me feel the real me. En dat is toch heel belangrijk.... :)

The next pictures are talking about the models. My biggest weakness in this field is, I just only can take the pictures. I dont know how to direct the model and doing other stuffs to support them.... Helaas... In this case I just can hope that my model will express themselves and do whatever they wanna do. My part is only jepret- jepret. Thank you to all models who helped me learning photography
